| Earth Crisis has been a dominating force in aggressive music since their
inception almost ten years ago. They have been releasing records since
1991, and along with fellow hard music bands like Sepultura, Fear Factory,
and Machine Head, they have paved the way for bands like P.O.D., Slipknot,
System of a Down, and Staind. There was a void in aggressive music in
the early 90's. The music lacked creativity and the message lacked substance.
When the Syracuse, NY-based outfit released their first two EP's in 1992
and 1993, they filled that void. Their debut, All Out War, and their groundbreaking
Firestorm took uncompromising approaches musically and lyrically. Earth
Crisis tapped into an unexpressed rage of conscious people. Over their almost ten year existence, Earth Crisis has continued along this path of breaking ground, constantly working, and reaching more people. They have put out three LP's: Destroy the Machines, Gomorrah's Season Ends, and Breed the Killers (produced by Andy Sneap - Machine Head, Stuck Mojo, Napalm Death). They also released The Oath that Keeps Me Free, a live record recorded in their hometown. Their relentless touring has put them in front of countless national and international audiences - from the U.S. to Canada, to Europe, Japan, and South America. In October 1999 they played Bogota, Columbia's Rock al Parque Festival for over 120,000 people. They have toured with bands ranging from Sepultura, Misfits, and Downset, to Snapcase, Madball, and Skarhead. In 1996 they appeared on the first ever Ozzfest along with the accompanying live CD and video that resulted from the event. In the last four years, Earth Crisis' message of human, animal, and environmental liberation has caused shockwaves that resonate beyond the music industry. They have received national media coverage on CNN (Earth Matters), TBS, FOX (America's Most Wanted), CBS (48 Hours), MTV (Music News), and ABC (World News Tonight). Charismatic vocalist Karl Buechner has spoken in front of members of Congress about teens and substance abuse. Earth Crisis epitomizes commitment, fortitude, and resilience and is an established and embraced trademark in the international metal, hardcore, and punk communities. Over the last year, Earth Crisis' focus has been on musically expanding to larger audiences. Their new material reflects their ability to do this without compromise. Vocalist Karl Buechner has coaxed his maniacal growl into migrating to tuneful, decipherable and addictively catching choruses and vocal hooks, at times sounding like a young, uncaged Ozzy Osbourne. Karl's astounding range and vocal depth has positioned him as one of the strongest voices in rock. The musical backbone of the band has never been stronger from both songwriting and musicianship perspectives. Aggro-bassist Bulldog and drummer Dennis Merrick provide the most calculated, spontaneous, and convincing percussion backdrop in hard music today. Guitarists Scott Crouse and Erick Edward's sometimes pulverizing and jagged, sometimes soothing sonic barrages round out the musical savagery. Physically the band is in its best condition ever and is determined to take over every stage, audience, and venue that they invade. Their new release, entitled Slither, was produced by Steve Evetts (Snapcase, Hatebreed) and is sonically the most assaulting, alluring, and captivating record in the band's history. This is not just a record - it is the soundtrack to the freedom and liberation from the inhibiting elements of the world. |
